I long ago registered at DH but have never posted...HOPEFULLY the Mod's there can see IP Adresses -to cull out (yes-CENSOR) any multi-handle troublemakers. A mellow dead only forum sounds better & better....

Yes but the 'rules' at Deadhook would also, as I understand it, censor Telephone Toughguy's political posts, for example. Would you want that? I like the open house policy around here whatever warts it throws up now and then and that's why I'm staying - I can ignore agree, comment or dispute with whatever gets posted - and so can everyone else.

hmm

I would say its more like ..

you wouldn't go into wendys and ask for a quarter pounder with cheese .. ya know ..

politics .. and the inevitable arguments and ill will (especially the arguments and ill will).. are not what DH is for ..
its been proven time and time again .. people cant have a civil discussion about political topics without someone being greatly offended at some point .. this is true everywhere and can not be denied..

speaking only for myself... I dont miss any of it

Politics.. and to a lesser degree religion have fucked up enough of the world as it is ...

-wordy motherfucker .. OUT!

One wordy motherfucker to another - I can do without any of that fast food shit.

Politics is, or should be, about engagement, about taking an interest in what happens in your community, your town, your country. Your politicians are a bunch of corrupt, self-serving assholes? Fine. Who voted for them? Why weren't enough people motivated to vote against them?

Politics, or the need for it, isn't going to go away because you find it distasteful. Or to return to your earlier metaphor - if you don't like what's being served up, learn to cook yourself.

Amen Rob. Many have lost the "suvival of the fittest" gene.

Kids today play in Little League Baseball and some of the leagues "don't keep score".

Ha! I say! Yeah, let's not teach our kids to compete, and let's squash their individuality. That way they will never learn humility, just one of many benefits of competition. The yuppies have tried to teach their kids that nobody is better than anybody else.....the result, a generation of followers. We need leaders.

Also lost in all of this madness is the art and joy of a good debate. Communist bastards!

Kinda rambling, I know. I hope you all get the point.

Nobody ever said that isnt the case..

I dont see what any of that has to do with DH .. or why discussing such matters there on any level would be of any worth to the DH community

its a fine line between engaged and enraged when politics come into play
---

again nobody ever said that wasnt the case

nobody is hiding their head in the sand pretending the world will go away
there are plenty of political people on DH .. as there are on every site Ive ever gone too
the difference is on DH people have taken the step of realizing that not every place you go needs to necessarily be an arena for those thoughts and discussion

It has never once come to my attention that anyone has felt censored or unable to express themselves ... maybe it has .. Im no mod

Or to return to your earlier metaphor -
if you don't like what's being served up, learn to cook yourself.

that makes no sense ..

I said something to the effect of ..

dont go to wendys looking for mcdonalds ..

If you dont like whats being served .. make sure your in the right place ..

and it looks like you are

{ good day sir. }

edit to add ..
the above is a really shitty snotty ass way to end a post ..

I do not really feel the way a closing like that would make it seem ..

I feel like quite the douche about that .. sry

My response was not intended as a criticism of the Deadhook experience but rather of your remark that "Politics.. and to a lesser degree religion have fucked up enough of the world as it is ..." The point I was trying to make was that, if that were true, it was only because we had, through inaction, allowed it to be so. For the sake of brevity I focussed on politics rather than religion but by and large the sentiment holds true for both.

Deadhook's right to be a politics free zone and your right to go there are unassailable - but I'll still choose to be here.

Yes.. that is certain

Also .. just bear in mind my half coherent ramblings are my own and I do not speak "for" DH .. much to the relief of DH1 Im sure

I was just trying to describe the thought behind it as I see it from my POV and experience

& I dont think anyone is trying to change anyones allegiances, habits or "home" as it were.. dragging people off never to return

just some curious folks poking around trying to make more friends

or ..

bolos & bozos as the case may be ..

I'll always assume your ramblings to be your own and I trust you'll do me the same courtesy - I grind axes for no one but myself.

"just some curious folks poking around trying to make more friends"

"Only connect", as EM Forster wrote.
